A rollercoaster of pros and cons
We were treated to breathtaking views from our room and were amazed by the kind staff who went above and beyond to accommodate our dietary needs.
The trek from the dining area to our rooms involved numerous steps, making it a workout more than a walk, especially after long, tiring days.

The welcome was warm, and the atmosphere felt
like a genuine escape into nature. The food was fresh and made with local ingredients, which I appreciated, but the communal dining could get loud at times, making it hard to converse with my partner. We had an especially delightful evening watching the sunset over the bay.

while i appreciate the skilled boat driver, the $500 fee for our family beach trip was absolutely ludicrous! not to mention, the structure is 30 years old and in dire need of renovation, hearing my neighbors was like sharing a room. i thought maybe a complimentary bottle of water would woudl ve been in order, but definitely not. disappointing.

This was a well-suited match for my short stay in Drake Bay, offering excellent value for money. The communal dining experience was great for connecting with other travelers while enjoying delicious meals prepared with local ingredients. Just be prepared for a workout climbing the stairs to the rooms.

The elevated rooms offer breathtaking views of the rainforest, perfect for spotting wildlife like monkeys and macaws right from your patio. Walking paths are well-maintained, allowing for easy navigation despite the inclines, making them accessible even for those with limited mobility.
The climb from the dining area to the rooms can feel excessive, as there are about 80 to 100 steps involved, which might be a workout after a long day. Additionally, while the lack of air conditioning fits the tropical rainforest vibe, the humidity can be intense, so the fans might not suffice for everyone’s comfort.

The lodge features authentic Costa Rican decor with stunning views of the rainforest and Drake Bay. The pathways between areas are well-maintained, making it easier for seniors to navigate, despite some inclines.
Additional outside seating areas would be helpful.

Recommend it for families wanting adventure
We had this lovely experience when the capuchin monkeys decided to swing around our bungalow. At one point, they were so close, we could hear them chattering. The chef wowed us every night with unique dishes, each better than the last, like nothing I’ve ever tasted before.
It wasn't cheap, but the experience was totally worth it.

The views from my room in the Double Room View were breathtaking, showcasing the vibrant wildlife right from my patio. I loved the communal dining experience. sharing meals with other guests opened up delightful conversations, especially during beautiful sunsets. The meals were superb, highlighting local ingredients with a rotating dinner menu that surprised me nightly. Staff members like Nancy and Rudy were incredible and genuinely attentive to my needs, making the experience feel personalized. However, the numerous steps from my room to the dining area were intense, especially after long day hikes. The lack of A/C was a bit of an adjustment, as the humidity was suffocating at times, despite the large fans. Also, the décor and the structure are showing their age, and it could use a bit of modernization in some areas. Still, the location's serenity and the experiences offered make these minor inconveniences feel negligible in the grand scheme of things.
